Who is Stephane Criel?

Stephane Criel is an Associate Partner of our firm’s commercial law department specialized in intellectual property law, commercial practices, general commercial and economic law as well as economic penal law.

He pragmatically assists his national and international clients in search of a solution for a wide range and a large number of commercial issues, assesses risks in court procedures and litigates in these areas.

Stephane mainly advises on protecting intellectual creations or knowhow and preventing or solving IP issues, drafts or reviews and negotiates contracts to that end. As to penal law, Stephane has pleaded several cases in cybercrime and IP infringement cases.

Stephane holds a Law degree (Ghent University 1993) and obtained in 2000 a Master of Intellectual Property and ICT Law (bilingual Degree, Katholieke Universiteit Brussel- Katholieke Universiteit Leuven). From 2013 till 2016 he has been teaching Intellectual Property at HOWEST (Bruges). He is a regular speaker for Flanders Entrepreneurship and Unizo.

He started at the Ghent bar in 1993 and started he started his own law office in 1999. In 2007 he was co-founder of the VanEeghem&Criel law office before joining Monard Law in 2016.

Since 2000 he has been appointed as Third party Decider in Domain Name Disputes for CEPANI, the Belgian Centrum for Arbitration and Mediation.

He is a regularly elected member of the Ghent Bar Council and is a member of several committees at the Flemish Bar Association (Commission IT and workgroup Artificial Intelligence).
