Who is Daan Wetzels?
Daan Wetzels focuses on economic, commercial and corporate law.
He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Hasselt University (2014, cum laude). Daan obtained his Master’s degree in Law (major: Economic Law, minor: Social Law), from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2016, cum laude). He obtained a certificate in International Maritime and Transport law from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2015. In addition, Daan has specialised certificates from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Contract Design, Change Management in Today’s Employment Law, and Inheritance Law and Asset Planning.
During these years, Daan participated in several Moot Court competitions: the VRG & Linklaters Moot Court, the ELSA National Moot Court and the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court. This last Moot Court, with Public International Law as subject, replaced his master’s thesis at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Together with a colleague he wrote the “Best Memorial for Applicant” during the Belgian Championship round.
During his student years, Daan was also involved in the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) Belgium as Vice-President, and was active in the Vlaams Rechtsgenootschap (Flemish Legal Society) Leuven, where he tutored the subject Introduction to Economic Law for first bachelor’s Business Engineering degree students. Finally, he worked on the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven IusStart project, an organisation that assists student start-ups.
In July 2016 Daan, together with a number of colleagues, published his first article “The Protection of Journalistic Sources” for the Council of Europe and ELSA International.
He is a member of the Limburg bar association and has been with Monard Law since 2016.
